In the 21st century it is hard to imagine a world where no property is allowed, where no religion and folk traditions are supposed to exist, a world where destinies of the people are decided by the government, where anyone can be forced to move in into a communal flat together with three other families, complete strangers.
Soviet era has vanished from the Old Riga and the city centre but it is still alive in the suburbs, and above all - in the memories and faces of our people. To understand the 50 years of the Soviet history, you will have to visit places where tourists rarely go and hear stories that only locals can tell you.
While discovering the Soviet times you will also discover the stagnation that ruled this world for decades. You will learn about the Soviet ideology that declared unreachable goals. You will see how different these principles were from the real life. You will see why many people love communism, and even more hate it.
Travel Jam will take you to the most important landmarks of Soviet Riga, that include the Occupation museum of Latvia, the Latvian SSR Academy of Sciences, the Soviet area Plavnieki, the Riga Motor museum where the Soviet cars GAZ, MOSKVICH, ZAZ, VAZ, IZH and the car of L.Brezhnev can be seen.
